Tolentino
1907-1974
He
showed a strong bent for drawing since he was a child, a bent
also due to the strong influence of his uncle, the painter
Cesare Marcorelli.
From
him he must have taken his preference for caricature, a genre
which allowed him to give expression to his fine humour. In
his paintings, Luigi Mari pictured a lively reality, observed
through deep and perceptive eyes. He
was the thinker-up of the “Biennale Internazionale
dell’Umorismo” (International Biennial Exhibition of Humour
in Art) and the founder of the Museo della Caricatura
(Caricature Museum).
