LUIGI MARI

Self-portrait

Tolentino 1907-1974

He showed a strong bent for drawing since he was a child, a bent also due to the strong influence of his uncle, the painter Cesare Marcorelli. From him he must have taken his preference for caricature, a genre which allowed him to give expression to his fine humour. In his paintings, Luigi Mari pictured a lively reality, observed through deep and perceptive eyes. He was the thinker-up of the “Biennale Internazionale dell’Umorismo” (International Biennial Exhibition of Humour in Art) and the founder of the Museo della Caricatura (Caricature Museum).

ADEO OCCHIBIANCHI

Tolentino 1908-1992

A precocious artist, he distinguished himself in drawing and later in clay moulding; he perfected his talent in wood-carving, with the creation of pieces of high quality. The artist, who dedicated only his spare time to the art of carving, gave vent to his passion creating suggestive works full of personality. In 1955 he got the 2nd price in a nation-wide sculpture contest organised by the newspaper “Gazzetta per i lavoratori”.

PAOLO PACE

Etching
Tolentino 1914-1961

He was an established painter and engraver.
Some of his works reach a very high lyricism, since the artist was able to represent the genuineness of his feeling and to fully reflect his child’s heart, a child who dreams of an imaginary world full of bitter humour.
